Here's Everything You Need To know

In a world of many reboots and sequels, we've just heard tell of a rather MAGICAL one. Hocus Pocus 3 is coming – bringing Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Wilder and Kathy Najimy's witchy sisters back to our screens, in the form of a third movie instalment.

Disney boss Sean Bailey – the president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, no less – confirmed the exciting news in a recent interview with the New York Times: "Yes, Hocus Pocus 3 is happening."

This comes after the success of the Hocus Pocussequel,Hocus Pocus 2, on Disney+ in 2022 – after 30 years, fans were thrilled for a revisit to the witchy universe.

2.7 billion minutes were streamed during Hocus Pocus 2's launch weekend, and it was also the fifth most streamed movie of the year, with a grand total of 5.7 billion minutes viewed.

Here's what we know so far about Hocus Pocus 3.

What will Hocus Pocus 3 be about?

No specific plotlines have been confirmed, however one Hocus Pocus star in particular has suggested that the third iteration may not be live-action.

Sarah Jessica Parker – who will appear on our screens again very soon with a brand new season of Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That – revealed in a September 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly that there had been conversations about an animated version of the Hocus Pocus story.

So while nothing has been confirmed, we could potentially have a complete different take on the witch sisters for the third instalment of their story.

“Kathy had a good idea that the third one should be animated. That would be cool and a smart idea,” Sarah said. “It's fun, funny and could be interesting and innovative, like old-fashioned or new [animation]. Of course I'd be happy to have a conversation, it just depends on what Kathy and Bette want!”

Who will star in Hocus Pocus 3?

As of yet, we don't have a concrete cast list for Hocus Pocus 3, but we can take an educated guess that the legendary trio of Bette Milder, Kathy Najimy and, of course, Sarah Jessica Parker shall be involved in the new story.

We're also hoping for appearances from Hocus Pocus 2 stars Whitney Peak (Becca), Lilia Buckingham (Cassie), and Belissa Escobedo (Izzy), who conjured the original Sanderson sisters back in the sequel.

What have the Hocus Pocus stars said about Hocus Pocus 3?

Bette Milder spoke in the actors' Entertainment Weekly interview that she would definitely sign on.

“If there was a third one, of course I'd sign on, but I don't know how. I can't imagine what the story would be, but I love Winifred, Sarah, Mary, and our relationship. It's good for women,” she said. “We stick together through hell and high water, but we do cause mayhem, and not many women cause that much mayhem.”

Speaking of how it felt to put out Hocus Pocus 2 in 2022, Bette was very excited to play Winifred again and how she'd love to have a full franchise.

“I'm envious of other actors who have franchises…" she said. “After 30 years with no sequel to Hocus Pocus, I've always been envious of people who get to do their favourite character more than once.

“The fact that we got to do this finally, after 30 years of promoting the idea, I'm glad we got to do it. I'd love to have a franchise — especially a character I love playing.”

Is there a trailer or release date yet for Hocus Pocus 3?

It's very early days, so not yet. But we shall update this article as soon as we hear word.

In the meantime, Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2 can be streamed on Disney+.
